The Visitor Eco-Discovery Center will address the need to connect the public with local businesses, provide “one-stop shopping” ticketing options to support partner enterprises, and recommend a variety of recreational activities and amenities not only in Flagler County but throughout the region. This initiative aims to raise awareness of local ecosystems, educate visitors about native flora and fauna, wildlife, cultural heritage, and promote eco-friendly recreational options. Furthermore, the Northeast Florida Regional Council is crafting a master plan focused on eco-tourism and trails for the entire region, recognizing the Flagler County Eco-Discovery Center as a vital element in enhancing economic diversification and resilience.

The Visitor Eco-Discovery Center will significantly enrich the community and the Northeast region of Florida by serving as or providing:
  • Information Hub: It will act as a regional information center, sharing the story of the county and its surroundings through maps, brochures, and guides about the Scenic Byway system, alongside nearby attractions and points of interest. This resource allows visitors to access valuable information that might otherwise remain unnoticed, aiding travelers in making informed choices while exploring Northeast Florida.
  • Interactive Displays: Featuring display panels, exhibits, and multimedia presentations, the Center will educate visitors about the area's history, geology, ecology, and cultural importance. These displays will enhance the visitor experience and appreciation of the region.
  • Rest Stop and Amenities: Offering public restrooms, scenic picnic spots, Wi-Fi, a playground, a bicycle trailhead, and both indoor and outdoor relaxation areas will provide a comfortable break for travelers, especially on long journeys, enhancing safety and comfort.
  • Souvenirs and Merchandise: The sale of souvenirs, local products, beverages, snacks, and memorabilia related to The Center’s activities will generate revenue for its maintenance and preservation efforts.
  • Interpretive Programs: By hosting interpretive programs, guided tours, and ranger-led activities, the Center will engage visitors and deepen their understanding of the trail system and its environment.
  • Accessibility: Ensuring that the Center is accessible to individuals with disabilities will create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone.
  • Conservation and Sustainability: The Center and its surrounding area, including the BCHRP, will function as a nature center, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in natural surroundings while educating them about the environment. This will encourage stewardship of public lands and the protection of both natural and cultural resources in their communities.
  • Gathering Point: The Center will serve as a venue for events, meetings, and fundraising opportunities, fostering community spirit, awareness, and heritage.
