Camping is awesome, but anyone who camps out in a tent knows that pitching one on the ground can be a real pain. Rough or uneven ground and wet or snowy conditions can make for a very uncomfortable night out in the wilderness, not to mention the creepy-crawly insects and critters that can have access to your shelter.
These awesome floating tents from Tentsile alleviate those problems and provide a very cool way to “hang out” in the trees.
Inspired by spider webs, London architect Alex Shirley-Smith envisioned a ready-made, floating portable treehouse shelter that could be carried in a backpack and assembled anywhere quickly – the wilderness, a backyard, or even in the city. In 2010 he made the first prototype – the Tentsile Stingray. This tent only takes about 10 minutes to set up and will shelter 4 people.
If you are feeling adventurous (and aren’t afraid of heights), you can install your tent high up in the trees and access it through an opening in the base with a rope ladder.
But if you have small children who will be climbing in and out of the tent, or you just don’t like the idea of having to scale tall trees to set up your shelter, you can easily install the tent just a couple of feet off the ground.
All you need are three trees and the three included tree straps. Or if conditions are right, you can set the tent up right on the ground like a regular tent.
“Tentsile was conceived as a portable treehouse that combines the comfort and versatility of a hammock with the security and multi person occupancy, of a tent. Our range of suspended shelters is unimpeded by ground conditions and will take your camping experience to a new level!”
